One Wyckoff Township Committee position is open for election in 2007. It looks like Diane Sobin will be running in the Republican Primary on June 5 against incumbent Henry McNamara, Jr. We should be hearing about other candidates after the April 9 deadline. Does anyone have history on challengers in Wyckoff? Reply to this

With "Open Space" passing in November 2006, the Township Committee has not done anything to form a committee for it. They say "we don't need it." Every town that passed an Open Space referendum has formed a committee to oversee funds such as Green Acres that Wyckoff would be entitled to.
Our TC tells us that "there is no open space left in Wyckoff." But it seems that as soon as a developer is ready to build houses somewhere - we see that there is open space...the ravine, Maple Lake, and a few more significant acres that are targeted for development. Our TC does not care about preserving what wooded areas we have left and anything we have left they want to keep it under the radar until a developer has purchased it to build McMansions. And why do you think that is? It appears that nepotism plays a huge role in our TC - Planning Board and Zoning Board. There is a huge conflict of interest among the people who sit on these committees and boards. It would be hard to ignore the fact that these individuals are not benefiting in some way from their decisions to help developers in Wyckoff. Let's hope that no one is benefiting monetarily from granting ordinances, variances, etc. to developers. That would be, of course, illegal.
With Barrister Developers - owned by Mr. Malanese - developing and trying to develop Wyckoff's open spaces - perhaps the town should be renamed Malanese. Of course, once there is no land left for him to develop, he'll move on to the next town or county or state and do the same. and no one will remember who Mr. Malanese was - except that he was a greedy guy who built huge homes - of moderate quality - in what once was a quiet, quaint town. Last night the planning board sold out every person who calls Wyckoff home and gave all the profits to the attorney turned developer BOB MILANESE of Barrister. Past, present and future residents will soon have only pictures in a book to view the Ravine for the beautiful place it was. That same book will list the names of our so called leaders and hopefully the author will tell the truth and not the usual propaganda the local politically controlled rags write to make themselves look good. Every one of those board members is a disgrace. Kathy Scarpelli of the planning board and the second YES vote to push Wyckoff toward total build out works for one of them- confilict of interest? You decide. Joe Fiorenzo the puppet master who clearly wrote everyones speech for them last night, takes credit for removing 104 affordable housing units from Boulder Run and then threatend us that if they did not approve Barristers 9 houses 99 condos could be built there because there was nowhere else in Wyckoff. He forgot to mention that Wyckoff could have bought the property and removed that threat. Nobody ever talks about affordable housing at the Galenkamp family's 60 acre Sicomac Dairy property, which by the way made both Planning Board Chair Gordon Stanley and Zoning Board Chair Rudy Boonstra very rich men by the town rezoning farmland into the most expensinve housing development in Wyckoff. Nice deal for their property values huh? Who cares about yours. Fiorenzo also takes credit for the steep slope ordinance AND the stormwater ordinance BOTH of which were too weak and builder friendly to apply to the steepest sloped property in town. Good job mr big shot attorney, you deserve a medal. Maybe your developer friends can give you an award made of wood. At the rate your going wood will be more valuable than gold. You better have Galenkamps son in law arborist who you give the town tree work save you some wood when he cuts them down. They take the population for fools which we ARE if we continue to let them run (ruin) this town. Fiorenzo and Alnor lied about their comittment to open space to get reelected. Then Boonstra elects himself with the McNamars bait and switch primary election which robbed Diane Sobin of a legimate and deserved spot on the ballot. GET MAD PEOPLE AND WAKE UP!!! WE ARE ALL GETTING SCREWED BY THE REGIME! Even Iraq gets to chose people they get to vote for, apparently you have no rights in Wyckoff. Maybe we should rename the town Fiorenzoville or Galenkampia. They do NOT represent me but they made it clear that if you are an out of town builder they will fight for your right even using taxpayer dollars to pay our township engineer and planner to argue for the developer. If you attended the hearings this is no news to you; if you havent ASK someone who did to get the true story because the local papers are yellow journalism at its finest. Am I bitter? NO; just someone who has become educated in the political BS of Wyckoff. Reply to this

Just thought your readers would like to know that immediately after the reprehensible vote to destroy the Ravine, I was standing outside the courtroom with a reporter when Rudy Boonstra walked up to Diane Sobin. Mrs Sobin asked Mr Boonstra "Well Rudy what do you think about that vote?" and he said "I fell sorry for your group." Sobin replied "Forget about our group, you should feel sorry for Wyckoff." AMAZINGLY Boonstra responded "I'm done felling sorry for Wyckoff." That coming from the person who selected himself as the only choice for the voters to "elect" someone to "represent Wyckoff" should speak volumes to anyone who was unsure about how this township runs. The issues the Friends of Wyckoff are real and the only way to see a change is to make it happen at the polls in November. Reply to this

A few days ago I was driving south on Wyckoff Ave and passed a house with a homemade sign on the front lawn. The sign had Diane Sobin's name on it with a circle around it and a backslash through it.I could not believe my eyes! In fact, I went around the block because I was sure I misunderstood what my eyes were seeing,I had not. I was outraged that a citizen of our town could behave in this manner. Well, today in the Villadom Times(11-6-07)this person wrote an article in support of Rudy Boonstra. His very first sentence says"I have lived in Wyckoff for almost 25 years and cannot remember the level of acrimony,name-calling,and innuendo generated by the group wrapped tightly around Diane Sobin"!HELLO.....DIDN'T YOU PUT THAT SIGN ON YOUR FRONT LAWN????? That is just the first sentence of a letter filled with inconsistancy! He defends the right of Boonstra and his family to"do what they wish with their own property".I don't think he's getting the point.Too bad.I'm afraid there are too many people in town who don't get the point. Am I the only person who is upset about this sign? I feel that he has gone beyond the limits of supporting his candidate. We all live in this town, shop at the same stores and go to the same churches.Have we no compassion for our neighbors and their families anymore. I get more discouraged living in this town as each day goes by. Reply to this

The Wyckoff Township Committee, particularly Mr. Galenkamp and Mr. Fiorenzo were both extremely rude and disrespectful to resident Brian Scanlan at a recent December Township Committee meeting. Mr. Scanlan was told he had "10 minutes - no more no less" from Mayor Connelly - in a tone of voice similar to how a parent would reprimand a child. Mr. Scanlan's purpose for standing before the TC was to respond to Mr. Fiorenzo's comments at a prior Planing board meeting - particularly to state inaccuracies in a quote that was recorded at the meeting as well as to correct the spelling of his last name. Mr. Fiorenzo interrupted Mr. Scanlan at least twice and not in a polite way. Mr. Scanlan's statement that a "conflict of interest" is apparent within the Township of Wyckoff, especially within the TC, PB and Zoning Board as most the gentlemen (and one woman who never shows up at meetings) are family or work-related. Mr. Fiorenzo asked Mr. Scanlan to cite a specific "unethical" incident. Mr. Scanlan pointed out that just having friends and family on these boards is a conflict of interest. Both Mr. Fiorenzo and Mr. Galenkamp were quite agitated at these remarks. If they have nothing to hide, why be defensive? Things need to change in Wyckoff, and the first thing residents need to do is elect "outside" officials not associated with this "old boys" club. Wyckoff practices nepotism and cronyism and have done so for at least the past 12 years. The Friends of Wyckoff is the first group to question what the TC is doing. Diane Sobin was the first "outsider" to run for a TC seat, and had an overwhelming 1,000 + WRITE-IN votes. 2008 will be an interesting year for Wyckoff. Reply to this
